Sometimes it takes just a simple reminder how to allow yourself to be thankful. To be appreciative of the love from others. To show that appreciation and excitement to those who thought of us and took the time to do for us something special.
One of our incredible grandchildren recently turned five years old recently. This provided the chance for all of us to share this momentous day with her and to let her know she means so much to all of us. For my beautiful wife and me this meant not only a homemade cake with special candles, but a special gift.
After a short time of blowing out candles and making that special wish (anyone recall what they wished for at that time?), we were outside looking at a new pink princess bicycle. The same bicycle she envisioned months previously and mentioned several times.
Thankful is the word. It is defined as “pleased and relieved”, such a genuine expression. It was such a warm expression from such a wonderful gentle child. How often do we show this expression to those around us? How often do we genuinely tell them thank you? How often do we light up with a smile and show enthusiasm? Those who love us every day and take time out of their days to do the little things that are often overlooked. Reflect back on your day and consider those who have touched you recently.
Look around you in your life and thinnk of the many who come into your life. So many offer little expressions of friendship, tenderness or respect. Have you been truly thankful? Oh to be a child once again…
“Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus” – 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
