Soooooo much wild life that it made it hard to keep up a good pace, for fear that we would spook the animals! They are so much fun to watch and enjoy seeing how they interact and go about their daily lives.
We are talking about our favorite trail at the Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground. It is located in Walt Disney World between the Wilderness Lodge Resort and Fort Wilderness is Mickey’s Wilderness Trail. Now there are no guarantees you will see animals. That is based on the time of day, the number of people out on the trail and of course how noisy and disruptive you may be, no offence intended. But on this beautiful October morning, when the sun was just warming up the surroundings, oh did we see wild life!!
This trail has a favorite of ours for years, you can read all about the trail in our article Mickey’s Wilderness Trail.
Start / end of trail at Tri-Circle-D Stables for Fort Wilderness.
Large amount of open areas for all to enjoy.
Almost forgot this neat sign at the entrance, keep an eye out for horse drawn carriages.
The trail is used by joggers, walkers, bicyclists, and of course wild life.
Rustic posts and rails, for safety as needed.
This trail is adjacent to hundreds of undeveloped acres that Disney set aside as wildlife refuge. Notice the natural fields to the left of the trail?
It was early in our walk when a beautiful young doe across the road stopped us.
A turkey foraging for breakfast.
Our walk soon became a slow crawl as we heard more activity in the brush on the left. Can you see all three dear in this photo?
Then we spotted a very still mature buck watching this group of girls.
As we began moving along and enjoying our conversation, a pair of turkeys decided they wanted to cut in line!!
Beautiful aren’t they? Love how comfortable they are with their surroundings.
Along we walked and within a few hundred yards another surprise to the left.
But wait, there was another just off to the right of my girl.
Turns out there was a small group of girls hanging out, just wanting to say hello I guess.
Not to overlook him or judge him by his size, because this little guy can be very wild!
The classic path to the now closed trail that ran along Bay Lake.
This has been permanently closed with the construction of the new Disney Vacation Club Bungalows under construction. Bummer…
Florida has some beautiful forests with the tall mixture of oak and palm trees and the moss clinging throughout.
Some inviting red berry bushes, look but do not eat!
The variety of undergrowth provides fantastic views.
Keep a watchful eye out for Disney Pixies! They can jump out when you least expect them.
More photos of the wildlife refuge area and trees entangled in vines.
Such a relaxing start to a glorious morning.
One of my favorite undergrowth is ferns, and here they can grow large!
The end/start of the trail at the Wilderness Lodge Resort.
Heading back into civilization.
As we came to our campsite turtles were spotted enjoying their breakfast.
Swimming gracefully in the water.
Wait, do I want to go to the left?
Walking (or exercising) along a trail can be very rewarding. Take time to find places around you to explore and view your wild life. Take a friend along, the conversations and time together are priceless.
