A woman is procrastinating getting up before the sun. She has been awake for awhile, listening to cars racing one another down the road. Thudding and clanging down in the dip, bouncing back up on flat pavement to hurry on.
The morning bird did not have the chance to wake her. She smiles because she knows what this little feathery beast is doing. He is out there on her pretty flowers, so eager to have his morning satisfaction of yelling, “good morning, good morning, good morning, good morning.” Her flying alarm clock!
He has found out that sitting right in this flower pot, he can be annoying. Hearing movement in the house, he can fly away laughing. He can return later that morning and sing, “beautiful, beautiful.”
But, to his chargrin, she swings open the door. Swishes the curtains aside, smiling before sunny rays arrive. His ritual mischievous ways are foiled for now. He dips his beak in to the center of a flower, then back to his nest.
The woman pushes the button on her coffee pot, sitting at the back windows to get a front row seat of the sun’s rays playing and skipping through the trunks of the trees.
She breathes in deeply, the smell of her coffee brewing. As she stands to go to the kitchen, a deep dark silhouette, followed by another, catches her eye. She freezes as they lift their heads, turning toward her simultaneously.
Watching them for awhile brings a needed peace, but then a laugh erupts from inside her. She tries to subdue the sound, but out comes Hahahaaaa!
A very large skunk comes waddling out from the foliage. Simply gorgeous in a highly stinky way, Crawling under the rock encampment right at the edge of the yard, is her home. One morning, she might reappear with her little ones. She prays they make their trail toward the wood. Not a path to the road.
Close by she hears the “good morning, good morning,” call of her feathery alarm clock. He is probably out there delighted. He did not get to wake her, but maybe he helped orchestrate this mornings recital. He heard her laugh and he see’s her smile.
The whole morning is waking up. The glistening dew is being absorbed in to nature. An assortment of birds are making their appearance. This morning started, for her, as simple as that.
