Standing firm.
My purpose fulfilled,
Yet I remain.
Built to protect,
Useful I still am.
Reminiscing,
Of times past.

Spending the past weekend teaching our grandson how to ride his first bicycle reminded us of how difficult it is at times to learn new things
Shilo wanted so badly to jump on the new bike and wheel around the driveway. To go around and around and have so much fun. Trouble was that at first he was not strong enough, or at least he didn’t think he was. Then it was learning how to get on and get it going, and understanding all the other things around while riding.
Life can have these moments, even for us adults. Times when we are attempting to get a new business off the ground, to start a new exercise routine, or to get ourselves out of a current routine. Excitement comes thinking about all the possibilities and we can see ourselves changing and doing the things we desire. But changes require us to grow and become stronger in areas where we currently are weak. It may also require us to eliminate something in our current life to make the time to practice and get better. Changes are not always easy and usually do not come without a cost.
With time, as he attempted to get up on the bike, it became easier and easier. The confidence within him grew. The attitude of “I can do this” came to the surface. Not thinking about the things he was doing in the past, and the things around him now, he was focused on what he wanted to do. The bike sped along with ease. The strength in him extended far beyond his little legs. Shilo had started a new journey, one that will take him many places over the course of his life.
Our experiences can have the same results, if we keep on trying. Never losing the faith in ourselves and in our dreams. It may take several times and trials. We may stumble, we may fall, but we should never give up. Each time we try it will become easier. We will grow in the strength and knowledge we need to make the changes in our life become a reality. Change is not always easy. With effort, faith and hard work, we can improve our lives every day if we keep putting another foot forward.

There could not be dreams if I did not have your inspiration. Blending color in to my life. The Red. The White. The Blue.
I would be almost lost if I did not see your determination. Your sweat, the dirt, your blood, always going on.
The steps I take, would slow to a crawl, if you do not lead. Left. Then right. Marching. The cadence, music to my ear.
My heart would surely stop if you did not offer encouragement. Saying you will be okay. No worries, Momma, alright?
My days would blend with other days if I did not have you cheering me in your gentle ways. A sweet smile left behind, a lingering hug that I can still feel, an I love you, that I still think I can hear, sometimes whispers in my ear……
As you leave me, my soldier, my son, you are like an eagle, taking flight, flying high, far away, circling the globe, leaving a piece of your soul, like an anchor to my heart.
He is my love, this amazing creature from above.
He pushes from behind, then he stands by my side.
Always cheering, forever encouraging.
What direction to go, I wonder?
He stands in front of me, and holds my hands.
Forward, of course.
I am the one in the house that is hiding empty toilet paper rolls. I stuff them in my bathroom drawer and in grocery bags. I hide these in the closet!
I think I will be okay. I do not think this desire to hide empty rolls will cause a future problem! My husband laughs when he finds them and asks if I am alright.
The reason for this unusual behavior is not because I just want to hoard something, but because I want to make something beautiful out of them. The one in the picture is certainly not the best example by any means, but I tried! This craft was done a long time ago, probably right after I made my wobbly headed turkey craft.
I thought if I wrote about what I hide and what I want to make, that maybe some wonderful, pretty creation will come out of it. I need a nudge to get started. Positive thoughts, encouraging myself to try again.
So now that I have shared my peculiar ways, this strange disorder, I have to get busy. One of you out there just might ask have I started my toilet paper flower arrangement!
Sometimes is seems that life gets so hectic that time just passes so quickly. In fact, with all the new technology available, much of our precious spare time is now filled before we know it. This makes it so important, now as much as ever, to set goals and keep moving forward.
Keeping your eyes on the prize…
Starting out on a journey with no clear understanding of where we want to end up is certain to be full of surprises, both good and bad. Life has enough of those, whether you plan or not. Taking the time to look ahead, both short term and long term is critical to helping not only see the direction you want to travel, but in getting you there.
It is easy to forget…
Ever notice that our days are filled with ideas and thoughts that are so quickly forgotten. Writing down daily thoughts and tasks helps to keep us straight. So it works with writing down goals, and keeping them in plain site. Tape them on your mirror, put them on your tablet or smart phone. The key to remembering is seeing them often enough to keep moving in the right direction.
You are the one you need to make happy…
While it is great to encourage others on their way to achieving goals, never lose sight of what is important to you and those you love. Your goals may be somehat silly to others, or like mine just downright crazy. The fact is you need to make yourself happy. Be honest with yourself on your dreams and where you want to go. Be true to yourself. Oh yeah, and keep moving forward – Walt Disney.

Dear Alexander,
We are so proud of you. Dad and I love you so much and have always prayed for, and protected you. We prayed for the very best in life for you. We believe there is a path for each one of us. We believe we are to step out and follow that path. We have seen you take those first steps to becoming a Marine. You have grown stronger both physically and mentally. You are looking forward and you will only look back to see us cheering you on, encouraging you to grow, mature, and become a man. We do not worry because now you pray for us and you will be the one protecting us, others around you, and your country. You may never read this because you do not know I started an actual blogging countdown, but here I am with 75 days left and I can not be more proud of you. I love you my smart, handsome, young man that the Lord blessed us with. Momma
